June 1, 2013 - 8:00pm MARY FAHL of October Project

“Sounding like no other singer of her generation” (Allmusic.com), Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s chamber-pop group OCTOBER PROJECT. With “a voice for the gods” (Boston Globe), Fahl wraps you up in that rich contralto of hers and transports you to every corner of a song with power and subtlety. Her singing combines emotional directness and honesty, intelligence and sensitivity, with gut-level impact. As a solo performer, she has recorded albums for SONY Classical and V2 Records, and has written and performed songs for several major motion pictures, including the lead song (“Going Home”) for the Civil War epic Gods and Generals. Her repertoire, including her own elegant compositions, songs from October Project and from her acclaimed version of “Dark Side of the Moon,” classical and world music, and chamber-folk for grown- ups, is characterized by beautiful melodies and sumptuous textures… all Fahl needs to sound cinematic and lush is a guitar, a spotlight and a glass of water. It may help if you close your eyes. For tonight’s audience, Fahl will also perform songs from her long-anticipated, soon-to-be- released album, “Love and Gravity”. A pre-lease of this new CD will be available at the show.
